At YachtPro / Blue Wave Yachting, learning to sail is more than just
teaching you the skills - we like to think we help to instill a love
of sailing that every one of our instructors feel. In this way, it
is easier for our students to learn and courses are fun.
It is also important to note that we rigorously optimize our student/instructor
ratio to maximize the amount of time each student has direct access
to the instructor. In addition, our training yachts are specifically
set up for sail training.
We offer the following courses, although please note that student
numbers, course schedules and course formats can be tailored to meet
you needs:
I. BASIC KEELBOAT SAILING STANDARD (#101): 3 days
Course pre-requisites: None.
General Description: Able to sail a boat of at least 20 feet
in length in light to moderate wind conditions in familiar waters
without supervision. Hands on course that includes terminology, sail
handling and trim, crew duties, all points of sail, anchoring, docking,
picking up a mooring, man overboard drill, basic rules, knot tying.
A Preparatory Standard with no auxiliary power or navigation skills
required.

IIa. BASIC COASTAL CRUISING STANDARD (#103) -
DAY CRUISING: 3 days
Course pre-requisites: Basic Keelboat Sailing
Certificate or a challenge of the ASA 101 standards.
General Description: Able to cruise safety in local and regional
waters as both skipper and crew on an auxiliary powered sailboat in
moderate winds and sea conditions. Includes terminology for large
sailboat, parts inventory, more navigation rules, USCG and ASA equipment
lists, selection, handling and trim or larger sails, reefing, winch
operation, basic navigation, more knots, inboard and out board engine
operation. Docking, anchoring, mooring and man overboard maneuver
under sail and power.

Course Structure
At the initial levels, we ensure to maximize our time on the water
with a combination of both theory and practice. We realize and understand
that many students are spending their holidays with us, and want to
enjoy the tuition and sailing on board, rather than pure classroom.
Included in the course prices:
- Day Sailing Courses: Yacht running expenses, lunches,
drinking water on board, Course Notes, the Examination and Accreditation
Fees. Plus, a YachtPro T-Shirt
- Live-aboard Courses: Yacht running expenses, meals, soft
drinks, water & snacks, Course Notes, the Examination and
Accreditation Fees. Plus, a YachtPro T-Shirt
- Self Purchase Texts: We highly recommend the purchase
of texts for both pre-study and continued development, before
you leave. We do stock them in at the East Coast Marine Supplies
Store at Ocean Marina (location/base of the training), but they
are usually more expensive here due to freight & tax. Hence,
a list of recommended texts is on our Texts and Books page
Booking Basis and Formats
Course formats are flexible to suit everyone, suitable for familes,
couples and single people. The booking plans are as follows:
Certification
The passing of the course is based upon the opinion of the instructor.
Students must satisfy the examination and show competence and confidence
at their certified level to be successful.
This is important for everyone, and for us to be re-assured that
you will be sailing safely.
For certification you will be required to complete written examinations
up to and including the level attained.
Non Cancellation Policy
Our policy is that we shall not cancel courses should other students
fail to attend or cancel their bookings.
Accreditations
To ensure your qualifications are recognized wherever you choose
to sail, we are accredited with the International Sailing Schools
Association (ISSA), American Sailing Association (ASA) and the Australian
Yachting Federation (AYF). Each of these organizations issue International
logbooks.
Insurance
We carry full insurance across all our vessels.
